PAULETTE ROSEN
In 1991, I left the field of child development to return to making art. I now have a private practice making custom books and boxes, and creating artists' books, collages, boxes and drawings.
My work is exhibited regionally and is in several university collections. I have been teaching book arts at Creative Arts Workshop in New Haven, CT since 1997.
My books and dioramic boxes are inspired by both the use of materials and ideas in my personal life. If presented successfully, they touch the private lives of the viewers. I chose to work in the book and box format because its nature and size facilitates an intimate, tactile form of communication.
In the last two years, I have begun drawing again and find myself involved in recording snippets of the natural world, focusing now on birds. I am especially interested in creating drawing and box installations that reflect these snippets as idiosyncratic collections, referencing early natural history specimen collectors.
